Introduction to Zillow API: Web Service to access Real Estate data from zillow.com
It has been a relevation for me personally to see of web services APIs starting with Google Maps are changing the web. This takes the OpenSource model from software to the web (Now Web 2.0) and releases creativity on a large scale. The resultant creation, functionality and productivity increases are tremendous.
Zillow announced the release of web services API to access their data. This blog post is a compilation of articles and an small introduction as to what the current Version 1 which is in Alpha contains.
This releases Housing (Real Estate) information on regional trends or individual houses to all who desire.

Introduction:
Zillow API, version 1 supports implementation (query using URI) and results using XSD which is a form XML based Schema.
As mentioned in the comments thread on the Zillow API blog entry above, right now there is no client based (Javascript, etc) based support. Hence, most of the implementations use backend server. The server code to get data from the Zillow API can be written in PHP, Ruby, C#, etc.
Functionality supported:
-Search for a property given a street address and city.
-Get Zestimate for a property including the value, the date of calculation, 1 week change, ranking with zipcode, etc.
-Get chart(image) for the Zestimate for a property in terms of dollars or percentage.
-Get recently sold comparable properties for a given property.
-Get chart(image) for the Zindex for a region in terms of dollars or percentage. The region includes All of US, a state, city or zip code.
This applies to Zillow API version 1 and is subject to change in future releases.
