bot-check 1.2: Wordpress anti-spam comment plugin

Category: Software, Internet — by Amit Chaudhary @ 10:31 pm

bot-check is a Wordpress anti-spam comment plugin originally developer by Brian at Blue Eye web development.

I have made changes to get it working with the latest Wordpress, version 2.0.5 which is used to host this blog. It requires GDlib and MCRYPT.
Download: bot-check-1.2.tar.gz

Changes:

-Make bot-check work for Wordpress 2.0.5 by correcting the add_filter call in bot-check.php

-Fixed the occassional corrupt image being displayed

-Fixed the comment being wiped out incase of incorrect or empty number (Captcha) field.

See install.txt in the file above for installation and license details (GPL, v2.)

PS: From what I know, bot-check works only with Wordpress 2.0.x. I do not have any plans right now for Wordpress 2.x or later.

  1. i’d really love to use your plugin but i’m having a majorly tough time getting mcrypt installed. even though i have libmcrypt properly installed, when i try to compile mcrypt it says libmcrypt can’t be found. :(

i’ve putzed with it for an hour already.

is there any chance you can make a nother version that uses a different encryption scheme that’s not dependent on mcrypt?

  5. To change the image used as background, copy any of the other images in wp-content/bot-check/ to bc-image.png.
    Try cp botcheck-image-orig.png bc-image.png or cp botcheck-image-FFD49C.png bc-image.png

  7. I am currently running Wordpress v2.2.1 and am trying to get the plugin to work. I log into my blog as admin but the plugin is not showing. When I try to go to the bot-check.php file directly, I get the following error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: add_filter() in /home/bryan/public_html/Journal/wp-content/plugins/bot-check.php on line 23

How can I solve this issue?

    Thanks,
    Bryan
